HOW IT APPEARS

Donald Trump apparently gets his security briefings from watching TV and reading right-wing reports off the internet.  Donald Trump tweets the following on March 4th, 2017 at 6:35am.  the following.
"Terrible! Just found out that Obama had my "wires tapped" in Trump Tower just before the victory. Nothing found. This is McCarthyism!"
"Is it legal for a sitting President to be "wire tapping" a race for president prior to an election? Turned down by court earlier. A NEW LOW! "
"I'd bet a good lawyer could make a great case out of the fact that President Obama was tapping my phones in October, just prior to Election!"
"How low has President Obama gone to tapp my phones during the very sacred election process. This is Nixon/Watergate. Bad (or sick) guy!"

These tweets set off a firestorm with the media and within the government.  The question that first arose was "Where are the facts that support this very serious claim?"  "Where did he find out"

So lets look at the obvious facts.  It is unlikely though possible and yet not pliable that the president was actually meeting with anyone in his residence when he tweeted this message.  Some of the possible explanations would be he was responding to a report from a talk radio or TV show.  Or he dreamed this and arose thinking it was fact.  Or even worse he made up the story to divert attention from the on going investigation of his involvement with Russia.  In any of these cases it is a very serious situation.

On June 19, 1998 President Bill Clinton was impeached for laying to a grand jury when he was under oath about having sexual relations with an unpaid 19 year old inurn Monica Lewinsky.  Not to take away the seriousness of lying under oath and especially to a grand jury.  But that is nothing compared to a lie in an official capacity as president of the United States with the direct intent to do harm.

So here we are at March 15th, 2017 and two days past the deadline for Donald Trump to produce evidence to support his claim or tweets.  And here is how the white house has responded.  The White House press secretary Sean Spicer who speaks for the president and the White House in an official capacity told the media that "Donald Trump did not mean Wiretapping when he said Wiretapping" and that "You should not take every word the president tweets as literal"  Boy you can not make this stuff up.  For real?  The president did not understand what he was tweeting?  Or he did not understand what Wire Tapping Is?  This is the same person who could wake up some morning and decide to launch nuclear weapons.

So where could Donald Trump come up with such an outlandish idea of a setting president wiretapping a U.S. citizen.  Which by the way the president does not have such authority even if he would want to do such a thing.

This part was provided by Ron Elving a reporter for NPR's weekend edition.  Elving says that he suspects that Donald Trump got his information from the following.

"It appears perhaps to be a response to a narrative in Breitbart.com, the right-wing website that was previously published by Steve Bannon, the president's senior adviser.
"There, you will find a narrative about how the Obama administration was so intent on thwarting Donald Trump last fall that they had much of the intelligence community doing everything it could to gather skullduggery and information about Donald Trump.
"And that would have included, according to Donald Trump, wiretapping his phones. But there does not seem to be any direct evidence of that."
As of today congress has extended the demand for proof from the White House till March 20th.  Congress has also demanded that the FBI and the Justice Department to provide any wiretapping orders on Donald Trump and the Trump Tower in New York during the election period.

So let me see if I understand this correctly.  Donald Trump who appears to be paranoid and someone whos personally requires he be in the spotlight at all times fabricates a story based on right-wing radical reports and then in his official capacity as president of the United States accuses an ex-president of breaking the law.  And then he musters the power of the United States government to now produce proof to his fabricated claim to get him out of hot water with Congress.  Do I have this about right?
